Status
Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Halifax Regional Fire & Emergency, and volunteer fire departments are actively responding to a wildfire around Mooseland Road by Sixth Lake, Halifax County.
It is currently estimated to be 1,700 hectares in size and is out of control. Firefighters on site include 25 DNR and 31 volunteers firefighters.
An evacuation order has been issued for 4315 Mooseland Road to Highway 7.

July 17, 2026 - 4:00 p.m.: Afternoon update
Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and Halifax Regional Fire & Emergency are continuing to respond to the wildfire on Mooseland Road, Halifax County. The fire is still estimated to be 1,700 hectares and is out of control.
Two DNR helicopters and four fixed-wing water bombers are assigned to the fire, along with two fixed-wing water bombers from Newfoundland.
Mooseland Road is currently closed to traffic, beginning at the intersection of Highway 7 and Mooseland Road. Please avoid the area.
This will be the last post for today unless there is a significant change to the fire.
July 17, 2026 - 11:30 a.m.: Morning update
Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Halifax Regional Fire & Emergency, and volunteer fire departments are continuing to respond to the fire on Mooseland Road.
The fire has seen significant growth and is now estimated to be 1,700 hectares and is out of control. Two DNR helicopters and two fixed-wing water bombers from Newfoundland are responding. Our four fixed-wing water bombers are also working on the fire.
Mooseland Road is currently closed near sixth lake. Please avoid the area.
July 16, 2026 - 8:00 p.m.: Evacuation Order issued for Mooseland Road area
An evacuation order has been issued for 4315 Mooseland Road to Highway 7. Evacuees should register at one of the following evacuation centres:
- Musquodoboit Rural High, 11980 Hwy #224, Middle Musquodoboit, NS B0N 1X0; or
- Marine Drive Acadamy, 479 Church Point Rd, Sheet Harbour, NS B0J 3B0.

Evacuate right away. Follow designated evacuation routes and the direction of local authorities. Do not delay.

The Mooseland Road wildfire has seen significant growth today is out of control. It currently sits at approximately 300 hectares.

An additional two fixed-wing water bombers are on their way to assist from Newfoundland. Mooseland Road is currently closed near Sixth Lake. Please avoid the area.
